Get Found Or Get Lost!

The Google of times past might have been your father or grandfather who managed to stockpile phone books from neighboring communities to make it easier to find the businesses they needed. Fortunately, those days are gone and we can find what we need without newspapers and phone books.

In the internet economy, your customers can be from across town or across the country as can your competitors and nobody needs a phone book. If you serve only those customers who are familiar with your business or who are local to it, you are excluding thousands of potential new customers.

Internet search engines like Google and Bing have changed the way customers and business find each other. They bring customers and businesses together through simple online searches.  Those new customers for your business might be your neighbors or they might be from the other side of the state or even the other side of the country. If Google can bring new customers from near and far to your business, it can also bring your far-flung competitors to your local customers too.

Thus, local businesses are no longer bound by location; you can have customers everywhere by developing an online presence. While the goods and services for certain types of businesses must be local and in-person, for many others, the locality does not matter in the least.

For this internet search magic to work, an attractive and compelling website is a good first step.  But if you have a great website that nobody can find, what good is it? It must be found by those searching using Google or other search engines. And to be found, your website should appear in the first few pages of the search engine results pages. There is only one first page of search results and that is where everyone wants to be. Some have the wisdom and resources to get there, some do not.

Search Engine Optimization (or SEO) is an effective technique used for decades to help businesses get their websites onto the first few search result pages. Landau Consulting, a New Jersey SEO company which does consulting in internet marketing and SEO services has published this infographic to help your website get found instead of getting lost.
